Generation: Powerhouse

5th Gen(5th Gen: Reymond Sajor, Lady Onnagan, Rhap Salazar, Marielle Mamaclay, RJ Buena)

Imagine five individuals with distinct, powerful voices sharing the same passion in singing and performing join forces into one group. You get a powerhouse that’ll just blow you away the moment they step onstage and open their pipes. That is 5th Gen.

5 world champions from the World Championships of Performing Arts in Hollywood who has brought pride and honour to the Philippines when they came home with awards and medals from the respective singing categories they joined in.

The first time I heard them perform live was in one of my shows and while I was backstage, I was howling and applauding them as they belted out. These five reminded me of me… very different offstage but once they take the spotlight, they all transform into legit performers.

Performing solo is a feat and it ain’t easy but to be in a group, you have to work doubly hard to work as one… and sound as one. One cannot afford to have a weak link. Everyone has to be a team player.

I can talk on and on about them but it’s best to see and hear them perform live. Catch them as I share my stage with them in ALL REQUESTS 3 on November 21, 2014, 8PM at the Music Museum.

For tickets, call Ticketworld at 891-9999, SM Tickets at 470-2222 and for special seats, call 09175223873.

The Fishbowl Awaits!

THE FISHBOWL AWAITS!!! Every one of you gets to challenge Jed Madela to sing a song you’d like to hear him sing on the spot. As soon as you enter the Music Museum on the concert night (Nov 21), you get to write on a piece of paper your song request and drop it in a fishbowl… in one segment, he picks up song requests (see photo) with a rule that goes “No request refused!”. This is going to be fun! See you on Nov 21st at the Music Museum for the 3rd run of his concert, ALL REQUESTS. ‪#‎allrequests3‬

Jed Madela All Requests 3

As a stage performer, director and creative consultant, I believe that every concert should be a reflection of the artist’s personality. It should tell a story… his story.

Every concert that I have done always had a theme. Looking back, I always had to have a theme that would bind the show together and not just mount a production just for the heck of it.

When I was starting, I depended entirely on a director, a writer and a musical director to do the entire production. I’d just learn my songs, learn my lines, do my blocking then that was it! Though the shows got good reviews, I personally felt disconnected and didn’t feel sincere in my performances. I was singing songs that had no meaning to me… singing them just because they were the hits during that time. I was saying words in my spiels that I personally wouldn’t find myself using on a normal basis. That wasn’t me. It was all memorised.

That was when I decided to be “hands-on” when it came to the planning. If ever we had to get a director, I had to sit down with him and pour out my  creative and artistic inputs. Same went with the music, the costumes, the stage design and even the spiels.

That was when we “gave birth” to some of my signature concerts that really showed who I really was. First, there was “Christmas with The Voice”… then came “Beyond Expectations”… “Back To Basics”… “X – The Jed Madela 10th Anniversary Concert”… and the latest one, “All Requests”.

The “All Requests” concept is plain and simple. You request, I sing. A few months back, before the first show was staged, we announced on social media that we were soliciting songs from fans for the show. Songs that they’d like to hear me sing. Surprisingly, there was an outpour of random requests! From pop to rock… opera and novelty… to inspirational and dance! Name it, it was all there!

As an added bonus, as the audience queued  into the venue, a fishbowl was placed and they’d drop their requests into it. In the middle of the show, I’d get the fishbowl and randomly pick a song and do it on the spot! Pretty neat huh? For that, you’d need an amazing band (I have amazing musicians! Believe me!), a sharp memory, an entire repertoire of different genres & pretty fast internet (for the lyrics on the prompter). LOL

As of this writing, “All Requests” has been staged twice and is about to be slated for another run on the 21st of November… that’s ALL REQUESTS 3!

Joining me onstage is 5th Gen, a group of Filipino World Champions from the World Championships of Performing Arts in Hollywood, Himig Handog finalist, Michael Pangilinan, The Voice Kids Philippines runner up, Juan Karlos Labajo and Journey frontman, Arnel Pineda.

Join me once again as I perform the songs you requested for. And to those who are wondering if the songs from AR1 and AR2 are the same with AR3, well, some are but we have added more of your requests to the line up! Did your request make it? Well, you’d have to watch to find out!

For tickets, call Ticketnet at 891-9999 and SM Tickets at 470-2222. For special seats, contact 09175223873.

Ever wonder what happens behind the cameras of the country’s top variety show? ASAP has been on air for 18 years already and rarely does everyone see what actually happens before the live show starts!

I put my FUJIFILM X100s to the test and I just love it! The crisp and sharp images feel like it’s going to jump off the screen. Set on black and white, here are shots from behind the scenes of ASAP 18!

It seemed just like yesterday when we were using the X as a temporary title for my 10th anniversary concert. I still can’t snap myself to believing that the concert is over and done! And hell yeah! It was one great evening!

Coming up with a concert is no joke. Talk about the sleepless nights and the constant headaches caused by too much brainstorming. Not to mention being paranoid all the time so as not to get sick! Phew! I must’ve have boosted up the sales of Berocca during the last months of preparation!

I don’t know. Maybe it’s just me. I allow myself to be immersed into the preparation of the concert. I am not the type of artist who just sits down and waits for everything to be spoon-fed… the songs to learn, the concept, the stage design, the outfits, the rehearsal schedules, etc. Everything went through me! And boy! It wasn’t easy! And I have the stress patches on my head to prove it!

But all the stress and hard work were all worth it!

The evening started a bit late due to the fact that it was a Friday and it was payday. An hour after the said starting time of 8pm, the band started to play its first note and everything flowed smoothly. There were a few hitches but what the heck. Human error. We’re not computers. We make mistakes. It’s just a matter of how you make it look as if it was intended.

As much as I’d like to do a run down of what happened in the concert, I’m not allowed to… yet! Hmmmm…  a repeat?? Maybe… hopefully. All I can say, that night, I felt so much love from everyone who was there.  The people who came were the ones who really considered me important. Despite the heavy traffic, they arrived… and watched. They made time for me… and for that I am truly thankful.

I want to thank my producers and everyone who worked on X. I really hope that we do more work in the future (minus the ones who just gave us headaches LOL).

To my family who flew all the way from Iloilo, Cebu and other places, thank you!

To those who bought tickets, thank you! You saved lives!

I always say this… and I’ll say this again… “As long as you are there, willing to listen to my voice, I will continue to sing for you.”
